Need recommendations for good firewall (hardware) that can create VPNs with Cisco Pix 501 and 506 easily

Our in-house firewall, a Cisco PIX 501, just died on us and we're looking for replacement hardware that's not necessarily Cisco.

We currently have VPNs set up with several remote locations that use either a Cisco PIX 501 or 506 and we need to be able to create VPNs with them with the new hardware we get, but I haven't been thrilled with the PIX's performance and it seems to break down or have problems often.

What firewall hardware could do this (VPN with the existing PIX) and is also hardware you recommend and why?

I need at least 50 user licenses, and want a sturdy unit.

Have you used these to create a VPN with Cisco products?

Thank you both.
Can you tell me which of the maker's products are similar in class to the Ciso PIX 501?

I'm having a hard time, for example, finding that easily on CheckPoint's site.
