Computer can no longer read external hard drive (USB connection)

Yesterday, I unplugged my USB connected External Hard Drive (I/O Magic Databank 200GB) & took it with me to work. In the evening, I came home & tried to connect it back to my home computer & for some odd reason, the drive no longer shows up (use to show up as F:). IN device manager, it says "Uknown device" in the USB area, also in Disk Management, it doesnt show anything...not even the volume. I just see my C: drive. I rebooted the server a couple of time, and at one time I did see the USB port in Device Manager as saying "Mass Storage", but now again it just says Uknown Device. The drive has important data. Could it be that I left the drive in the car, & it was somewhat cold weather...that should not have any effects though. The I/O magic site does not have any Drivers either. Please help.

Also, if you can't see the drive using the above methods, remove the drive from it's USB case and connect it directly to the PC.

Nobus: Shutting down & rebooting after 30 mins didnt yield any results. I opened the suggested Reg. Key, but how do I delete the upper & lower filters...please educate, I did not see anything saying upper & lower filter at least. Tried copying the USBSTOR.sys from another PC, did not work either, if I delete it, it automtatically creates a copy. Also, before i was seeing "Mass Storage" listed in the USB ports in the device manager, now I no longer see it.

ALL: No matter which Laptop I attach the external drive to, it does not even show up under the Device Manger, I dont hear it churning anymore, as it would usually do, when I powered it on. Now I just see the Blue light go on...like its on...but I dont hear any Hard Drive movements or sound. Also, all other USB devices work on the computer...except this Hard Drive. Can anyone at least tell me where to get the drivers? This is very important...please tell me a solution. ALso, I am not very good with hardware, so I dont want to open the case of the external drive & connect it to my PC internally. please help.
You don't need extra drivers for USB disks, at least not for OS's like XP. If you can't hear the disk running, either the case is broken or the disk inside. The only way to check the case or the drive is to remove the disk from the case. Maybe you can get a PC shop to do that. Depending on the value of your data, you can also send the disk to a recovery agency like Gillware. They usually are able to get your data. If the Data isn't worth recovery from an agency, then leave the disk in it's case and at least get a warranty replacement from the manufacturer, if it is still inside warranty..

I dont see any reason why the hard drive may be broken, because it has not been mishandled. Could it be that the USB port is corrupt or gone bad?
Also, I thought about removing the HD out of the enclosure, but how do I do that? I dont see any screws on the I/O Magic hard drive, but I do see 4 small points on either side of the case that are sort of protruding. Can anyone tell me how to open it?
Hard drives or USB cases break all the time without necessarily having been mishandled. I don't know that particular product, so I don't know how to open it. Just be aware that if you open it you will most likely void warranty. So it is always what is more important, the hardware or the data.
>>  I dont see any reason why the hard drive may be broken   <<
people seem to think a disk cannot go bad, so they do not take backups; it is the biggest mistake you can make.
All devices go bad, flash sticks, ram, mobo's disks...
>>  but how do I delete the upper & lower filters...please educate,    <<  it is clearly outlined in my post : by deleting that  key.  make a registry backup if you are afraid of the outcome !
Forced accept.
