Running exchange 2003 and 2007 at the same time?

Currently I have one exchange 2003 server that servs up mail for our domain.  We have a backup box for DR that we can bring online and move the mail store over at any time.  We are currently upgrading to portal server 2007 on the other box and decided to see if we could also upgrade the exchange instance.

The question is, can I have exchange 2003 installed on my main box, but be able to move it over to the exhange 2007 box with no problems?  Thanks.

The other option is that I can do an inplace upgrade on the main box and then upgrade the DR box.

Thanks in advance!
