IIS, ODBC, Acess Database installation

My Database Managemement book (Riccardi's Database Management) has the following setup text:

Requirements
To install the Activity Guide, you must have a Windows computer with
Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
Microsoft Access database engine
Data Sources (ODBC) control panel
...
I dont know where to get any of these 3 or how to install them and then what to do
I want to start learning to make web-apps

Hi,

>> Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)

control panel -> add remove programs -> system components -> application server

>> Microsoft Access database engine

installed by default

>> Data Sources (ODBC) control panel

installed by default: control panel -> admin tools -> odbc

Cheers.

This doesnt work on Windows Vista.

The Control Panel doesnt offer the steps shown (no system components branch)
ahh, vista eh? ;-)

open control panel, then change it to 'classic view'.  Now you will see the administrative tools icon.  Open this, then you will find the odbc manager.

Cheers.

The control panel doesnt have the same application server steps ( in Vista :/  )

thx
Hi,

for Vista, find IIS installation at:

control panel -> programs and features -> turn windows features on and off -> internet information services

it is essentially the same, they have just renamed everything just to keep us on our toes! ;-)

Hi,

There are many options in the 'internet informations...'  tree. (Web management tools) and (World Wide Web Services)
Need I install them all (check  'internet information services,' and 'okay' to install them all) ?

Will this open my machine to all of IIS 's functionality ?

thx
