currently im running my PS3 on a wireless broadband connection(Wispertel)in colorado.i have a 3mbps connection with a average 1.9dn-1.2up with a 50 some ping.the only problem is that i will loose my connection on any P2P programs after 10-30mins.i talked to my ISP several times on the issue with no resolve.several people i have talked to who use the same ISP say they have no problems playing games or doing other P2P sharing.i know its not my router, because i get the same results when i run it straight to the receiver.
any help or ideas would be great.THANKS skippey

Have you verified you have all the ports open and forwarded to your PS3? Other specific titles for PS3 sometimes require additional ports open/forwarded for connectivity and functionality. Enable UPNP.

You may want to look at some of the settings from here: http://www.orpheusinternet.co.uk/support/ps3/index.html
Also be network aware: If you are using Cable modem if you connections drop at certain hours (when everyone else is using their modems), if you have some sort of VoiP (Vonage) being used for bandwidth or if some other service (PC online games, Limewire, Gnutella, Torrents, etc..) are running that it will cause problems.

ASKER

ports dont seem to help any.ive tried every port that i got from the playstation help center.
it doesnt matter what time of day i play.most of my games are late night 12am-7am.
also i have no programs that are running in the background.

OK then lets look at 2 areas then. Your Router and your ISP:

[ISP]
here is a list of ports that your ISP currently blocks
http://www.wispertel.com/blocked.html

Because your ISP is wireless (point to point) connection you may have latency issues. I do not see anything listing on their site covering this, but that may be a phone call to them to see. And your ISP has weekly maintenance windows where you have the potential of being disconnected: "every Thursday evening from 10:00pm - 3:00am on Fridays"

[Router]
Can you check to make sure you have the latest firmware for your router, the MTU on your router should be set to max (usually 1500).  If there are any settings on your Router or Antenna about keeping your connection alive.

i usually run a speed test every day just to see how my connection is.the average is around 65ms.rarely does it ever go above 100ms.i work thurs nights so i dont have any problems there.
im not sure about the firmware.its a fairly new Linksys WRT54G version 8.my MTU is at 1500.not sure about any settings for keeping my connection alive.im sure Wispertel would have told me about it.at one point they said i should try a new router.then they just said its the Playstation network.
im going to a buddies house on wed to try his tower out.if i find out it works at his house,im calling Wispertel again for the 100th time.till then im trying to get as much info together as possible.
thanks again, skippey.

Sounds good. You also may still want to check the latest firmware on your router. Check on Linksys's webpage. for the WRT54G v8 the last firmware update was 1/18/2008. v8.1 - 12/6/2007 and v8.2 was 1/18/2008

i did the latest firmware upgrade for my router today with no noticeable changes.it seems like im getting spikes in my ping times when playing.i will start out in good shape, and about 10mins into a game is when i notice my ping is getting higher.i mostly play COD4.im able to keep track of my connection in game.it starts with 4 green bars, then goes to 2 yellow or 1 red.sometimes it will go back to the green and will be fine.
from everything youve told me so far,im starting to think my ISP cant deliver what it promises about online gaming.just not on my tower at least.
