IE6 Cant login to Java Applet site after Win XP patch auto-update (Firefox Ok but next patch disabled Firefox login also)
Hello,
I just got a new X61 Thinkpad running Win XP Professional SP 2 Build 2600.
It was able to login to www.poems.com.sg but a few days later, after an
auto-update (sort of MS patch??), IE 6 would hang after I've entered the
password to login to this site. I enabled additional logs for IE so that message
would pop up when it hanged at the point of login & message details are :
Line 9
Char: 5
Error: Access is denied
Code: 0
URL: https://www3.poems.com.sg/asp/start/redirFrHomePg.asp?
sQStrPage=SG&sQStrTop=&cha ngePwd=
I can still login to this site from another PC. Regardless of which
network/broadband I connect this Thinkpad to, it will run into the
above problem. I can still browse other websites.
Even if I used XP's "System Restore" to go back to a previous point in
time prior to the onset of the problem/auto-update, it did not solve the
problem.
I then installed Firefox 2.1.0.0.13 to this Thinkpad & is able to login
to the site again. Then another auto-update occurred & auto-rebooted
the Thinkpad & this time, Firefox can't login to this site as well.
I restore back to a previous point in time (after 1st autoupdate but
before 2nd autoupdate) & Firefox would not login still. Then
uninstalled Firefox & reinstalled it but still unable to login to this site.
What should I do next?
If possible, don't suggest I reinstall/reload as there's quite a lot of software
that have been installed on this Thinkpad.
Appreciate if solution/suggestion can be emailed to sunhux@gmail.com
Thanks

Hi again,
It's "J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6" that was deleted -
is there somewhere that I can download this package to reinstall it?
I suppose the removal of this is the one that caused the yellow
triangle with an exclamation mark at the login field of the site to
appear.

Turned out that all that's needed is to turn the Privacy setting to "Low"
(under Tools, Internet Options). I swear I did not change this setting,
possibly something in the "auto-update" could have changed it to medium.

Unfortunately, I removed a "JRE..." stuff from "Add/Remove Programs".
The website screff gave is for Java(TM) 6 Update only - can someone
now give me the url to download the "JRE..." thingy.
Now when I load the page, I would get a triangle with an exclamation
mark in it at the login field
