Install Terminal Services on SBS 2003 R2 OS, without installing SBS components.

A client of mine has seen fit to purchase the equipment required to have a Terminal server installed at his site.

He has 1 X existing server running Server 2003 R2 servicing 12 clients locally

also

1 X New server with software, SBS 2003 R2, 5 X Client CALS for Terminal Services.

My question is:
Is it possible to use the SBS 2003 R2, without installing the SBS components, and use this new server for Terminal Services in the existing domain? Ideally I would recommend the servers change roles and the SBS becomes the primary in full blown SBS mode but the idea was not well received because of down time and expense.

Hopefully I am clear on my question, just trying to keep it simple, and hoping for a simple answer, also hoping he aint wasted his money and needs to purchase Server 2003. Once again this was done because SBS 2003 was cheaper than Server 2003 not alway the best policy.

Gonna ramp up the points for a quick resolution to this question.

Kind Regards
Microsoft Server OSSBSWindows Server 2003

You could transfer the 12 local clients to the SBS box and then use the existing 2003 box as your terminal server.

SBS isn't just server 03 with some bits added, it's actually quite a bit different so not installing the SBS 'bits' wouldn't work.

Clear and concise, with lots of little bonus snippets thrown in. I have split these points per answer as they were all relevant and informative. I did some research and everything you say cements what I had learnt. I just wanted to hear it from the experts. Thank you, 5 replies very quickly received and rewarded.

Thank you Phthornton for your reply, unfortunately I had awarded the points once you answered. Your reply is also very relevant and clears up a suspicion I had regarding the nuts and bolts of the core of SBS 2003 prior to the SBS component install.

Probably a NOOB question but I didn't get any damning replies so hey! just shows how professional all the guys who give replies here are.

Glad to help.
The only easy answers are the ones you know and if you don't ask you never learn - Pitty your client didn't ask before spending his money :-)
