Another easy VPN question regarding workgroups

I have 4 computers on one LAN and 3 on another LAN, I have connected the two via a matching set of hardware firewalls and created my VPN tunnel.

All 7 computers are on the same workgroup.  They do not see each other though like they are on the same network.  Am I supposed to see them or do I need to change some settings regarding the LAN IP's or Subnet masks?

Workgroups are only seen on the same broadcast domain/local subnet.
If you want to see all computers you have to setup either a WINS server on each subnet with the two WINS servers push/pull relationship, or add a LMHOSTS file to each PC that lists all the computers on the other subnet.

What is the difference  between the LMHOSTS and HOSTS?  The L means LOCAL MACHINE?

Could I technically create it in the HOSTS file too?
