Configure Lotus Notes for Remote Email Client Access
I am a beginner with Lotus Notes but have been asked to configure a demo solution for web mail access (like Exchange OWA). What information is required to ensure correct version, etc are provided.
Solution is installed and now requires webmail functionality. Is this provided for in the standard Lotus install and how do I progress this please.

Im afraid I cannot help there, but im sure there can be found some documentation online.
I'll try to look for it later once I get out of this blasted meeting.
All in all I can say this though, from previous experiences.
Upgrading or enabling Webmail on a Domino Server is not a joke, it requires a certain amount of skill & knowledge, or you risk breaking the template and thus removing or ruining some functionality, like we found out to our horror, our switchboard functionality.

1. How do I confirm Lotus Notes version
on the server console, type: show server
2. How do I ensure server is web-enabled.
on server console: load http
If http is running, you may get http already running or it will start
3. How do I upgrade mailbox to a webmail template
there is a command to upgrade mail templates. Else, open one mail db, do a replace design and select the iNotes template
4. How do I configure web password.
In the profile document of a person, in the Basics tab, there is Internet Password. Specify the pwd in that field.
5. Where do I enable port80, is this within Lotus or is this port enabling on the Firewall?
Check in the Server document in NAB. In the second tab.

madheeswar & cholmskov thanks for the help thus far. I am comfortable with what you have advised but without a step-by-step 'this is what is required to enable Web Access for Lotus Mail' I am not sure I will be able to deliver this requirement. Where can I find the install guide for web mail implementation please - Any further assistance will be appreciated.

That's exactly what I was looking for .. thanks
Starting with Domino release 5.0.8, iNotes Web Access is shipped with the
Domino server. iNotes Web Access uses mostly files that reside on a server.
The above mentioned implies that the Install CD's contain the cab files for the Notes Component. My client does not have the entire CD. Before I asl that he liaise with office over pond I wanted to be sure that iNotes Web Access was /is supplied on the Domino 7 install CD please

You should have asked...
"Do we need any extra files to configure web mail?"
Our answer would be:
"No, there is no need to have any extra files. Domino will work. Only you need is a license of iNotes and a Domino server and couple of changes in server document."
With every purchase of Domino server, you will get iNotes template.
I think it will be iNotes7.ntf.

I appreciate your guidance:-
1.Am installing a demo site, is iNotes licencing covered by original Notes client / Server install or is seperate licencing required for iNotes implementation, if so how is that actioned?
2. What changes are you referring to specifically?
3. How is the templete assigned / implemented?
4. If I have enabled web via console (load http), should I be able to open a web page with URL (http://demo/mail/admin.nsf - how do I confirm exact syntax and confirm ID) and open the Administrator Mail account
5.Alernatively if I have created a user ID called phil and how do enable user for web mail.

If you have a license, you can use iNotes.
There is a special package only to use iNotes .. I think it is CAL license type.
I am not sure.
Even a normal mail template can browsed through web..no need it to be a iNOtes.
yes, once http is enabled, http://serverIP/mail/admin.nsf you will be prompted for username and pwd. Make sure Anonymous is given No Access to the mail db in the ACL.
The user should have Internet pwd in the person document.

hmm.... it seems the certificate is not valid. You need to certify person documents with a valid id. Open Admin and goto people. select the person document and re-certify with appropriate id.
Anyway, since the user has mail file, open it from web.

1. How can I open Lotus Notes for a user (Phil) if I logged on as Admin (permissions)?
Is this possible or must I create an AD user mapped to Lotus user.
2. Please confirm exact syntax for web mail - is it http://serverIP/mail/phil.nsf if I have created phil.id?
3. How do I review / change mail file template for web mail.
Is this change neccesary to ensure webmail (like OWA) is applied for the user?

Since there is no need to access Lotus Notes client part, let's forget about physical user.id for the time being.
You have created phile.id which is a user id.
Now open Lotus Notes client using Admin.id (you would be having admin id with you). Else open the Admin client and click on people (You should be seeing phil document from the view).
If it is from Notes client, click on CTRL + O. From the box, select server name and click on mail folder and open phil mail database. You need to have manager access to change the design of phil db. or switch id to phil.id and open the mail db. select the mail db and from menu, FIle-> database->Replace design
select advance templates and select iNOtes.ntf or mail7.ntf ( Ican't remember the exact name).
Click on OK and OK.
This will upgrades your mail template. Actually while registering a user, you can select which mail template the system should use. You can select iNotes from the list. Once you do it while registering, you can forget about the above process.
Now, check the properties of the phile mail db. check for file path. it should be something like mail\phil.nsf.
Now from web, use the below URL:
http://serverName/<Phile Mail File Path>.nsf?opendatabase
that's it you need.

I have to admit I am not the guy for this type of lotus issue :(
I won't think my answers are not valid.... Giving a grade of "B" is not good encouragement for us.
If my answer is not relevant at all, then you would have thought of giving B.
Please ask a zero point question in community support providing a link to this thread to change the grade.
