On a Lenovo R61 model laptop, when a someone places a DVD in the drive and plays it in Intervideo WinDVD, it will play, UNLESS they are connected to the multimedia projector via the VGA or the S-Video cables.  If the try to play when connected to the projector, the player displays the message: Playback stopped.  Copy Protection Signal Detected.  These are legally purchased DVDs that cannot be displayed.

Could this be fixed by using a different dvd player software or is it an issue with the projector?

Thanks!

It's crappy software that's the culprit.  Since the introduction of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, an HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) compliant display device is required to watch these movies.  The idea is to prevent people from circumventing copy protection by hooking the video out to some video recorder device.  The projector you are using is not HDCP compliant.

InterVideo apparently has extended the HDCP requirement to ordinary DVD's as well (which is a load of crap in my opinion).  Your best bet is to get some other player software for the machine.
