More USB mainboard connections problems. Not sure which wires to connect to the pins.
I've got a mainboard MS 6511 on which the USB connector box has five pins in one row next to the slot and three in the other row opposite the 2nd, 3rd and 5th pins counting from the left as I look at the black rectangular box with the slot at the top...
slot
1 2 3 4 5
2 3 5
The original plug in the box I took this mainboard out of has
black grey/black Blue Black Yellow
White Green Red
These colors correspond to the positions 1 2 3 4 5 etc
White is opposite 2, green 3 and red opposite 5
The box I'm fitting it to has separate connectors on each wire
Red, U+
Brown, U-
Orange Ground
Black VCC
If anyone can help me identify the pins to connect these wires to I'd be very grateful.
Didn't find a manual for MS 6511 and although I found a lot of sites with different examples I haven't found this 8 pin USB slot anywhere...I don't think there's a pin broken but that might explain things. However I've tried ( reading from right to left - Power, D- D+ Gnd 5 4 3 2 and it doesn't work...
I know this USB slot worked OK in its original box.
Any help gratefully accepted
Keith
But assuming you're correct and there's not a missing pin (#4 on the 2nd row), then it's reasonably certain that 2 & 3 are the data pins. So the only real question is whether the Vcc is on pin 1, 4, or 5 (I'd guess pin 1). The best thing to do is to power up the board and measure pins 1, 4, & 5 against ground with a multimeter. You should see +5 volts on the Vcc pin.
... if Pin 1 shows +5 volts, then I'd try 1 - Vcc; 2 - D-; 3 - D+; 4 - Gnd
