Google Translate won't work. I get "The page cannot be displayed"
For weeks, I have been getting "The page cannot be displayed" errors when attempting to use Google Translate.
I am in Canada. If I try to access Google Translate from www.google.ca, I immediately get "The page cannot be displayed". If I switch to www.google.com, I get to the translate site, but anything I enter results in a "The page cannot be displayed" error.
On the google site I find no mention of this issue. I also don't' find any way to ask them about it.
Note, this is not a one time problem. This has been an issue dozens of times and I have not been able to use Google Translate for several weeks. I far prefer Google's translations and miss not being able to use them.
If you try http://translate.google.com, what do you get?
Does this only happen in IE? Do you have, or can you try, another browser?
Does this happen only at work, or at home?
Are you using a proxy server? What is its configuration?

I tried it in Firefox, and I got the same result.

Presuming you're using a DSL router, check its settings for how it handles Proxy Servers. The Google Translate service does use a proxy server. It may be this functionality that is being disallowed.

I am using an older, very common, Linksys Wireless B router, Model BEFW11S4. It is hooked up to a cable modem. I went through the instruction book and the configuration settings, and I don't see anything that would affect a proxy server.
Amazingly, this situation fixed itself. I tried this morning and Google translate worked perfectly.
Google's translation is MUCH better than its competitors. I took the sentance, "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their party." I translated it to French, and then back to English. The results were:
Google: Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of thier party.
BableFish: Is now the hour for all the good men to come using their part.
Free Translation: Is now the time for all good men to come using their party
Systran: Now is the hour so that all the good men come using their part
Note that some of the translations appear to be obscene.
Google hit a home run with their translation programs, so I am happy to have them back, although I don't know what I did to fix the problem.
