Windows Internet Explorer issues

I am having a problem accessing a website. It's one of my children's sites. Its www.webkinz.com   as of late whenever we type in the url it forwards automatically to this address http://www.webkinz.com/SWF/setLocale.swf?locale=us_en

it does NOT do this on any of the other computers in the house i.e laptop, upstairs desktop...only on my desktop in my office. all computers are accessing the internet from a wireless network in the house

Several issues you have I have worked with this program before

Clear out all of your temporary internet files go into internet explorer go to tools then options then click on delete files and delete cookies

Next you need to go the following website and update / test your flash on yoru system and also shockwave player

http://www.adobe.com
adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP

adobe shockwave player
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/?promoid=BUIGR

here is the test page for flash it should have an animation and identify the version installed if you do not see an animation flash is broken if reinstalling does not fix it then you will need to get there removal utility for flash and uninstall it then reinstall it

this is the test page for both shockwave and flash

when I reloaded Flash in my control panel the flash icon had a red X over the logo....and I am still having the same issues with the webkinz.com url
sounds like flash is goofed up. Did you also install shockwave ?

Go to start control panel add/remove programs and uninstall flash

also go to this site and download and run the flash removal utility
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1

then reboot and revisit the flash site and reinstall flash again.
liuag--When I try to access http://www.webkinz.com I, also, get redirected to http://www.webkinz.com/SWF/setLocale.swf?locale=us_en  .  So that seems a function of the webpage.  However, I only see a blank page.
I think you will have success if you put http://www.webkinz.com into your Trusted Sites (assuming you do trust this site), and then re-access http://www.webkinz.com.  It is a matter of allowing the proper settings in your IE Security.  That site requires permision to use ActiveX controls (and possibly other issues) in order to allow .swf files to work.
You could try to make the individual settings manually, but putting http://www.webkinz.com into Trusted Sites is much easier.
When I go to it, it redirects to http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/
Do you per chance have your cookies locked down too tight on the system ? You may have to adjust your privacy settings for this site especially if using I.E. 7 go internet options then the privacy tab then edit and add the webkinz website in and make sure you set to allow. I think the site is trying to set a cookie looking at the URL.

I did that before I contacted you guys....
Did you do the whole uninstall using the flash utility and then reinstalling ? and did you install shockwave ?

What version of Internet Explorer are you using ?
briancassin-- http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ is where I am directed when I put www.webkinz.com/  in my Trusted Sites.
I suspect that is the page Liuag wants to reach since it seems to open the webkinz page.
It is not clear whether Liuag put www.webkinz.com/ into Trusted Sites.
I don't have it in my trusted sites so I never got the first URL you mentioned. It went straight to the http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/

I did not get
http://www.webkinz.com/SWF/setLocale.swf?locale=us_en

which looks like it is checking for shockwave or flash...

briancassin --I think we are in agreement.  You must have your Internet Options|Security options already set to permit .swf to play.
tanwaising --Doing what you suggest  (acessing http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ directly) will probably not work until Liuag has the permissions for Flash and Shockwave in place.  That is the site to which http://www.webkinz.com/ redirects when it determines the permissions are in place.  If the permissions are not in place, http://www.webkinz.com/ seems to redirect to http://www.webkinz.com/SWF/setLocale.swf?locale=us_en
Liuag--Had you put http://www.webkinz.com/  into your trusted sites?

Liuag,

briancassin and jcimarron seem to be suggesting that the answer you selected is incomplete.  Please post here to explain why you selected tanwaising's comment.

Hi jcimarron, from the google link i provided above you can see that many people are facing the same issue since webkinz.com amended their website in the early of April. They all have no issue previously with the same computers accessing the same content on webkinz.com. This suggested it should not be the IE / PC configuration issue.

A simple google search can see that many people got this issue "solved" by accessing the URL http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ directly:
http://nz.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080403212756AAPJ7MA
http://au.answers.yahoo.com/answers2/frontend.php/question?qid=20080404072419AALS2lc

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080404072419AALS2lc

Some of them understand it as "Webkinz has changed their URL" but the technical reason, as what i guess, should be the one i posted above.

Hope it clarify :)

modus_operandi, I believe Liuag is able to access the website now.

Liuag, it's good that if you can post back the outcome whether your problem has been solved :)
tanwaising--Thanks for your response.  I was not aware of the webpages dealing with this issue.
A week ago I got the same results that Liuag reported when try to access http://www.webkinz.com/ .  Since .swf was involved I put that site into Trusted Sites and was redirected to http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ , which site could be accessed successfully.
I reported that URL a week ago.
It never was acknowledged by Liuag whether my suggestion was tried although the post of April 14 at 23:13Pm GMT is a little cryptic.
If Liuag had tried my suggestion as posted or by just clicking on http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ , Liuag could have accessed webkinz on April 15 at the latest .
To some extent, I would have liked the points, but I also would have liked to hear from Liuag whether my suggestion helped.  Sites using .swf often are tricky.  I almost always find that putting their domain URL's into my Trusted Sites solves the problem on my PC.  But maybe the success is not universal.  I would have liked to learn that.

sorry guys I thought I had closed this to everyone's satisfaction. I was able to connect using the suggested web address. I did put the webkinz.com address into my trusted sites with to no avail ....but I could access the site using the .com/us en/
Liuag--Thanks for your post.  Using Trusted Sites works for me.  I regret it did not help you.
jcimarron,

in reality we already were directly accessing the site but we were trying to have Liuag access it his normal way. IMHO both of us mentioned going to http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ and being able to access it.

Liaug could have tried that himself at any point before it was recommended by tanwaising. When both of us had mentioned being able to directly access the site... I am not sure what to think of this other then I get tanwaising's explanation and obviously he outright said directly access it..... kind of an obvious thing (maybe my fault / our fault) but the point is because of no feedback from Liuag on whether or not trusted sites worked (up until now) I held off posting anything more until there was more information just as I am sure did you jcimarrron.

Obviously the redirector on there site is goofed and is rejecting certain browsers I am on I.E. 6.01 maybe Liaug is using IE 7 which wouldn't suprise me if it isn't forwarding correctly or detecting correctly.

Oh well...
briancassin--This has been a good learning experience for me.
1)  After thinking about it a while, I now see that putting www.webkinz.com into Trusted sites (permitting flash to run) allowed the www.webkinz.com site to work and correctly redirect to http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ (for me anyway), whereas clicking on www.webkinz.com in Internet sites did not.
2) http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/ apparently does not need to be in Trusted Sites.
I think you said all this, but it was good for me to work it out myself.
All,

I will admit to not being able to follow all of the arguments (I'm not an IE/Flash/web guy).  Are things now resolved satisfactorily?

modus_operandi--As far as I am concerned, yes.
yes I guess so even though the end result of going directly to http://www.webkinz.com/us_en/
