Not Enough Rights to Install AVAST

I wish to assist a friend of mine with an AVAST installation error which reads as follows: Not enough rights to continue with two options, one for OK and the other for View Log.  Upon visual inspection of this log, all lines of code appeared good with the exception of three.  The first one refers to a potential registry problem.  For instance, the line of code here indicates the following: Registry: Error!: Cannot access registry HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\avastTestService, error code: 0x000005AA.  The second line of code which appeared out of place read as follows:  Install check: Setup Version does not exist.  And, finally, the other line of code indicates not enough rights to continue.
All other lines contained within this log code appear normal and free of errors.  However, if more information is needed, please feel free to let me know.

         The operating system used on this pc is Windows XP Professional Editional SP2.

         I look forward to hearing back from everyone regarding this question.

         Thank you

Hi There;

       Thank you so much for your response.  Within Administrative Tools of Control Panel, I went to Users and found his login name to belong to a group called Administrator.  However, I still may be overlooking something there.  With that in mind, could you outline for me the steps necessary to check his login profile?  Perhaps he does not have full administrative privililages.

Hi

      Just on a side note, I did create a new account and assigned this new username as an administrator as opposed to someone with limited privilages.  After doing that and trying to install AVAST on the problem machine, the same result occured.  Additionally, we are able to access and edit the registry within the account name which originally had trouble with AVAST installation.

      While I am not 100% sure, I think there may be something else operating here.  In any case, further review of this question will be necessary.

       Thanks in advance for any further advice given to this post.  I will look forward to reviewing any further suggestions.

Hi There;

        Thank you so much for the followup.  Unfortunately, I can not try this out tonight because my friend has already gone to bed.  However, I will carry out your suggestion after work tomorrow and post back the results.

        Many thanks once again.

Hi Everyone;

        Thanks so much for the well thought out replies to this thread.  I am happy to report this problem is now fixed.  Interestingly, we were able to carry out the installation of AVAST after McAfee Anti-Virus was disabled and no longer running.  For some unknown reason, McAfee somehow was conflicting with AVAST, thus, preventing it from installing.

        In any case, I am glad this problem is now resolved.  Many thanks again everyone for the help.
