Cannot access a Company in One-Write Plus. The suggestions in the manual do not work this time.

In using One-Write Plus (version 8.0) Accounting Software, I have encountered a problem in accessing a company.  I am getting an error message of:  "An error occurred while openig this company."
When this has occurred before, I could solve the problem by using one of the One-Write Plus Manual's suggestions of:  1. Close all othe programs;  2. Restart ;  3. Delete the company's log file; or 4. Restore.
These suggestions do not work this time.  I can access the company with a Restore, but as soon as I enter a Sale or Receipt and move out of this company, it will not let me back in giving the above error message.
Can someone help me solve this problem?

as the product is retired and there appears no more support, I can only suggest that there symptoms appear to be date related.
Timezone changed?
Did Microsoft security Updates trigger the fault?
Do other companies work still?
Is the problem from all clients?

debuggerau, thank you for your reply.
The other companies still work.  The problem seems to be with all clients.
If it was a time zone change or date related,  Why would the other companies work?
I don't think it is a Microsoft Security Update, because the computer I keep books on is not online.
Does this bring anything else to Mind?

cabyz to debuggerau:  Sorry about my delayed response to your questions about my One-Write Plus problem.  I was untimely distracted when you sent your expert comment.  Hopefully you will give me another chance.
No worries mate,
you may be correct then, if other companies are working, I'd be thinking of a corruption or inconsistency with that database. You may have to do an integrity check to validate the data.
You could always restore from an earlier point to verify this..

Also, when you restore, do you need to specify the location of the database?
Could it be that it looking in the wrong location for the actual data. I think its a separate file that maintains the accessible company list.

Permissions, have they changed on the host machine?

Licensing, No optional modules have expired for that company?

Run out of disk space?

debuggerau,
     Thank you for the response.
Can you explain more about what you mean by doing an integrity check to validate the data?  When I restore from my backup disc to 3/21/08 the company seems to work ok.  When I add data to this, things seem ok while I am in that session, but when I close out of that session and try to reenter the company I run into the above mentioned error and problem.
Restoring does not require specifying the location of the database.  The program does this automatically.  All you have to do is give the path from the backup source.  In this case it is path D which is a Zip Drive.  The backup file is compressed.  Again my 3/21 backup seems normal.
I have run out of space for this comment, so I will address your other questions and comments in my next comment right after this.
Thanks again.

debuggerau,
Continuation of my response to your last comment.
I think you are right that a separate file maintains a company's data.  I would guess it is the log file referred to in the manual.  One of the maual's suggestions is to delete the company log file when you get the " An error occurred while opening this company".  This has worked in the past, but not this time.  The manual's next suggestion is to do a restore and that brings me back to my 3/21 restore works for the session that it was restored but does not allow me to reenter the next time after I have added data.
I don't understand what you asked if permissions have changed on the host machine.  Please elaborate.
I don't think there is a problem with expiration of licensing.  My other 2 companies are working fine and I've seen no indication of a licensing expiration problem.
I have plenty of disc space.
Thanks again and I am looking forward to your response.

ok, you've addressed some of my concerns, but as you see, the integrity of the database is crucial and I cant find a reference to a validate function/feature either.
Only suggestions left is if cant locate an integrity check would be to restore from an earlier backup again. If this earlier backup behaves in the same way, I'd not be looking at the database anymore and rather focus on licensing, system limitations and bugs...

There is a validate feature in One-Write Plus in File/Utilities/Tech Support/Validate Database.  It only works when you are in a Company, which seems to make sense.  The company I am having trouble with will validate the database when I restore to my 3/21 data.  While I am in that session it seems to work fine.  But once I add more data (in this case ENTER/ SALES & RECEIPTS), leave the company and try to access it later, I run into "An error occurred while opening this company".
Even though I have plenty of hard drive space left.  Is it possible that One-Write Plus allocates a limited amount of memory to ENTER/ SALES & RECEIPTS and that I am exceeding that limit with my new data entry?
In previous years we have had problems with Purging outdated data, so we went on without purging.  Consequently there is previous years data in this category.
Are you a One-Write Plus user or previous user?
Yes, thats the validate function I remember.
I use Sage ACCPAC now-a-days but had some exposure with One-Write in the past with a few customers.
I'd never come across reaching the maximum table size before, but its quite possible.
Purging is always difficult since it normally requires an integrity check to ensure there are no lost links that are affected by removing the history.
I wouldn't try removing any batch history as a first resort, but have a look at the GL tables and the order entry tables firstly.
At least you have a backup and you can try purging where any errors will need to be rectified before it completes.
Give the purge a go and lets have a look at the results first.

   Thanks for the help.
I tried purge today and my computer locks up.
I have decided to form a new company and load starting balances of April 1 which we have on hard copy.  Fortunately this is a small company and has a very simple function.  We call it Customer Charges, which is our Sales & Receipts for our charge accounts.  It won't take that long to set the new company up and reenter the data.
My thinking is that this will take care of my Purge problem and surely the new company will function properly in file management.
I guess table size problems is a possibilty or maybe this company has developed some corrupted file management paths or something like that.  All I know is that I am tired of fighting this and will try to start over, especially since it is such a small simple company.  I don't understand enough about the internal structure of One-Write Plus and computers in general to do much else.  Also in talking to my bookkeepers who are the operators of this, I have found out that this company has had a history of slowing down and having error problems, more so than the other companies we use in our accounting.
We use another company in One-Write Plus that does our main GL, Banking and Payroll functions and it is OK.
I guess maybe that is the "good news" about this problem.
Thanks again for your help and concern on this.  I'll let you know how I come out on foming my new company.

debuggerau:
Thanks again for your help and interest in my problem with One-Write Plus.  I set up a new company as I metioned in my last comment.  It seems to be working.  This solution seemed to be the path of least resistance after spending so much time on trying to fix the old one.
