Network performance increase

I need suggestions to increase network performance.  This is what i have so far the company i work for doesnt want to spend money to buy gigabit technology.  Right now we have the cisco 2960G (gigabit) switch at the core and cisco 2960 (10/100) switches throught the network.  The network comprises of 300 devices.  What i've thought of so far is to hard code all switch ports to 100 full duplex to increase network stability and give us more control over it rather than autonegotiate.  Use etherchannell to give us a 2gig backbone between switches. and possible use of vlans with about 50 or so nodes per vlan.

Hard coding speed/duplex will be more of a pain than a performance gain.

Etherchannel, good.

VLANing, better.

I'd look at some NMS (network monitoring software) to figure out the bottle neck.  Look at the free 30 day trial of Solarwinds (http://www.solarwinds.com).  It's designed to work with Cisco.

Well to be honest i did a smaller network with hardcoding and i have bearly any errors and discards now that they were hard coded.

I manage a large network and we removed hard coding when I started.  We have 0 errors and discards.
