How does Wireless Signal works?

Hi guys,

I have one Access Point with high gain antenna as the getaway and my laptop with wireless as the receiver. I have a question, is it right that it needs 2 way signal from both my AP and laptop wireless to get connected? So even my AP could give good signal with the high gain antenna, but if my laptop wireless could not reach my AP that won't work? Thanks.

That's right..

The traffic between your accesspoint and laptop has to be 2-way. Because of the acknowledges etcetera in your network traffic..
Yeah Edwat, that it right !!

if your wireless signal is unable to pick the signal both AP and laptop cant communicate.
AP broadcast signals, it all depends on receiver strength to pick up signal and acknowledge to communicate (its something like a handshake)

Try to changing the channel of AP n check if it picks up the signal may be that channel has some interference.

What happens if your laptop is just next to AP?

Can I ask one more thing to make it clear...

let's say the AP have 200 meter range coverage, so it will broadcast signal  that far, if my laptop is in that range, it does not guarantee that I can connect to the AP because my laptop cannot reach the AP (it's not reaching the AP range), so I will need another atenna for my latop, is that right? Thanks again..
