Blue screen while trying to install windows xp onto my lenovo laptop

When i boot up my windows xp pro cd and the setup reads all the files.... i press Enter on the main screen to proceed with the windows installation. After about 5 seconds i get this error

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

What model Lenovo?

2 things to try:

1.  Change the bios setting for hard drive mode to compatibility.
2.  Your XP cd may be scratched. Clean it or use another copy.
If neither works, it may be the wireless card. Try pulling it and installing XP

Your laptop came with Vista, didn't it?  Your hardware, specifically your pci express components are too new for the original xp load.  You need a slipstreamed version of XP Service Pack 2, as xentelworker stated.
You may also be able to dis-able PCI-E in BIOS until the install is complete. After install, go back in and enable it again.
