Cannot remove highlight text in email

I cannot removed highlighted color on the text in an email sent from another person.  I can copy and paste the text into notepad and then recreate the document.  MS Outlook is up to date on MS updates.  I tried to uninstall  and reinstall MS Office 2003.  I have tried enable and disable the Mail Format to use MS Word as an editor and I still cannot remove the highlight from the text.  I can change the color of the highlight but cannot remove it.  Please advise.  Thanks.

Hello g000se,

Seems like sender use Rich Text or HTML to create the highlight.  Set to reply in Rich Text format, then test if you can remove the highlight.

If no joy, set Outlook to view in Plain Text only.

Hope this helps!

Hello war1,

Thanks for your quick response.

I am troubleshooting this on behalf of the end-user and he needs to be able to highlight the text in the email and then to remove it.  I see a feature in Outlook- Styles and Features- I was able to click on Clear Formating.  I wonder if there is a way to configure a button to remove the highlight under that feature only.
Can user highlight other text and delete?

User may be highlighting the text but cannot see the highlight because of existing color.   Go through the motion of highlighting the text, even if you do not see the highlight. Then hit the Delete key.

The user can highlight other text.  Delete removes the text too.

Here is the scenerio-
USER A sends an email to USER B on remendations.  USER B responds by highlighting some key points in the email and sends it back to USER A.  USER B then decides he needs to remove the highlights from his previous response.  This is when USER B cannot remove the highlight but can change the color of the highlight.

One minute it seems to work because in Outlook he is using MS Word as the editor and uses the Reviewing Toolbar and then the next minute it doesn't work.

I just tried to paste the document from his email to a MS Word and tried to remove the highlight but I am unable to from my computer.
How did USER A highlight the text?  Use Word as editor?  Are both users using Word as editor?

Sry for the delay.

USERA is using Word as an editor and USERB is too.

Try it out from your computer, highlight the text and then send the email to yourself.  When you reply to the email try to remove the highlight.  It won't let you.

In the past, I have been able to reset the Reviewing toolbar and then it works again but this time it doesn't seem to work.
