Error adding Datastore

I have two drives that are mounted under the C:\Virtual Machines\ Directory as VM1 and VM2 each is about 130 GB to hold several virtual machines. I want to create two datastores with one pointing to each mounted directory.

However, everytime I go to add a datastore... (select primary datastore) -> Add Datastore ->  Select Local datastore, name: VM1 directory Location: C:\Virtual Machines\VM1

I get an error: DuplicateName The name 'C:\Virtual Machines\VM1' already exists

If I use a directory inside of VM1 say "C:\Virtual Machines\VM1\someNewFolder' I get a generic "operation failed" error.

Any ideas?
