Running Visual Studios on Vista

Hi, this is not so much of a programming question as it is a VS 2005 question.  I just got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium installed on it and I was trying to install my VS 2005 developers application. It stopped during disc 2 and told me I needed to download some patches, which I did. However, the patches don't install fully. It keeps telling me that it failed at one thing or another.

Has anyone had these problems? If so, how did you resolve them?

Thank,
Fulano

I'll uninstall all and redo...I'll let you know how it worked out.

Hi naspinski,

Good call...!!! I uninstalled VS 2005 and then reinstalled it completely from CD. I did not upgrade at all and it ran fine. I did however get the error message about "devenv.exe", but after researching it a bit on the web, I found it to be a non-essential file and thus asked Vista to not alert me of that error any longer.

I'm not sure what the "devenv.exe" actually does, but VS 2005 seems to run OK for now.

If you know what "devenv.exe" is used for, please let me know.

Thanks,
Fulano
