Virtual server IP address question

Hi Experts:

I recently set up a Virtual server using MS virtual server. The host server has a IP of 172.24.80.10. I was given a IP of 148.129.106.80 for my virtual server.
The virtual server share the same NIC the host server use.
My question is: Can virtual server has a IP that is on the different subnet than the host server on?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. The virtul server couldn't ping the gateway after I gave it the assigned static IP.
Is there any configuration that I need to do on the virtual server?
Thanks

I've changed the zones to more accurately reflect the question topic.  Thanks.
