i've experienced this problem many times, usually restarting after taking the battery out for a few seconds clears the issue for that boot. i still haven't found a permanent fix for this yet, i believe what is posted above is correct - that the hard drive is beginning to fail. these laptops have a really high rate of hard drive failure, probably due to poor ventilation and excessive uptime.

Hello, I'm getting a message &quot;Drivelock Multibay Password&quot; when i switch on a HP Compaq nc6220 laptop, this appeared after i removed the battery for a while to try to reset it it. &nbsp;The original problem was laptop powers on but hangs at initial screen and says F10 for ROM Based setup. When F10 is pressed entering setup appears but does not go any further. &nbsp;I cannot even boot from CD to repair operating system.
