How to figure out a query time in PHP

How to figure out time that takes a query to return results?
Normally, I have seen on search sites that it tells that how long it took to do the search in seconds or microseconds. Any idea how that 'd be done in PHP, MS SQL Server? Is there any PHP function that returns the value?
Thanks
