Hi All,

I am about to purchase some some switches for my CAT Cabled (soon to be re cabled CAT 5e or 6, most likely 6) network for various reasons; our current switches consist of HP 2810 Pro Curve 24 G and the rest are all "dumb" switches.

The building has two floors:

A. Four on the top floor (Server room)
B. Two on the bottom floor (opposite ends of the building)

My queries are:

1. Is it best to have all switches as managed/Smart types or just one?
2. Do all managed switches come with Spanning tree now?
3. Is spanning tree required on all switches in this type of environment or just one per network or?

Whilst i do not mind reading sites and other information i request as much information from your experiences in the post please.

Appreciate a fast and detailed response.

Aalborg.
