Inbuilt Network card not detected.Needs assistance/
Hi all,
Ii have a compaq presario SR1933IL Desktop PC and the inbuilt network card suddenly stops working.The device manager wont even recogonise that it is conected.I tried to reset the bios settings to default..No go..The PC is just 1 year old... and i still have the warranty.But i want to fix it by my self.Does this need a motherboard replacement?could the network card alone go bad in my motherboard? I'm not quite comfortable with updating the BIOS.Any other suggestions?

Have you tried re-installing the drivers for the NIC card?
Make sure you backup your documents and whatever personal stuff you have on your computer. Try re-installing the driver, but that might get you nowhere if you have a problem with the OS. I would probably even try a system restore, that would make sure you have a clean install. Sure bios update is ok but if the NIC worked before and stopped working, then it doesn't have anything to do with the bios. And ofcourse last resource you can buy a pci nic and put it in, but I would still go with the warranty who knows you might get lucky and get an upgrade.

That's the first thing i tried but how could i install it if n/w card is not at all detected?

I had same problem with windows vista ,did a windows repair install and it worked.
the first thing i would do is check the bios; some program may have disabled the card.
if it is enabled, and not detected in device manager, you can try to reset the bios, by taking out the battery (remove AC first !) for a minute, and test.
if still bad, disable the on-board NIC in the bios, and install a separate Lan card
