After restoring the domain controllers ysvol folders are missing.

We restored only 1 domain controller.  The restore appeared to be successful but we are missing the sysvol folder.  We are trying to restore the 2nd domain controller now but I thought we could run AD off of just one domain controller.  Any assistance is greatly apprectiated!!!

Hi, you can follow this procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316790

Also, if you had 2 DCs before, restore both and then remove one gracefully - just disappearing a DC is never a good idea!

was this domain controller the primary and carried all of the fsmo roles?  You should be able to run yoru domain with one domain controller.

Yes, it will run, but it's not advisable - you'd need to clean up the metadata to remove the server that's not there - if the option is there to restore both I would always take that option first.
Your help has saved me hundreds of hours of internet surfing.

Thanks... I'm going to try this in a few hours and let everyone know the results... Also, I think the problem may have been from not doing a "authoritive restore" from our tivoli backup server (not sure where that switch is but I'm looking now)
Thanks again!
