1394 Connection - Connected with VPN?

Whenever I opened the "Network Connections" dialog in Windows (XP), I didn't think much about the "1394 Connection."  I figured it was my laptop's firewire port and that was the extent of it.  I noticed, however, that the connection has a "Connected" when I make a VPN connection.  How does my firewire port relate to VPN?  Or, am I mistaken, and the 1394 Connection isn't related to firewire?
