Cannot access Google or Gmail

Ever since yesterday, I cannot search with Google or access my Gmail. Most other websites do not work either. They just load indefinitely. I did realize that on the pages that do work (like iGoogle and Microsoft.com) an ad is displayed with an address of 85.17.166.173.

I think this is a spyware problem, but Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, and Spybot didn't find anything.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I forgot to mention that this problem occurs in both IE 7 and Firefox 2 and 3 (RC1).

Hello B_Pearl,

Sounds like you have a Vundo infection.  Use VundoFix.exe to remove
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/24/2/

Hope this helps!

That link gives me a "404 - Not Found" error, but I did find VundoFix V7.0.0 at http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4954.html

Unfortunately, its scan couldn't find an infection.
Could be Vundo there no doubt, but I believe that is a Wareout infection ip address: 85.17.166.173

Download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt).

Also, It would help if we could see what was going on with your computer. I suggest that you download, run, and upload a HijackThis log from the link below.

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe

Click on "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. Post the text from the log file. Do not have HJT fix anything at this point.

Please do not post the log into the comment window. Use "Attach File" under the comment window to post the log.

Here's report.txt from FixWareout and a HijackThis log.

Okay time for combofix.

Download and Run ComboFix (by sUBs) from one of the links below. You must run it directly from your Desktop.

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe

Disable your Anti-virus and any real-time Anti-spyware monitors that are running.
Then double click Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Upload that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.

Please do not post the log into the comment window. Use "Attach File" under the comment window to post the log.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Note 2: Remember to re-enable your Anti-virus and Anti-spyware.

NOTE: If you have issues connecting to your network or internet after running combofix you can either simply reboot, or do the following:
* Going to Control Panel > Network Connections.
* Right click on their Network icons & select "Repair"
or
Alternately, if the Network icon appears in the notification area in the lower right corner of Desktop, right-click it, and then click Repair from the shortcut menu.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Combofix will typically fix most and sometimes all Malware entries but many times a script is also needed to finish cleaning up. So please keep CF until advised whether you need the script or not.

I ran ComboFix, but when it showed me log.txt, it was blank.
Look for this file, that should be the one we need:

C:\ComboFix.txt

After ComboFix restarted my computer, I got the BSOD. Should I try running it again the same way or try something else?

But... It looks like the problem is fixed!!

Everything works again!

Thank you!

I can still continue if you want to make sure its gone.

And which of your posts should I mark as the solution.
Did it produce a new log? If so post that. Did it BSOD just once, or can you not get into windows now? If you can get into windows, how's it running?
