Is "XAMPP for lunix" made to be used on localhost only?

I have just got a new dedicated linux server, it has php Version 5.2.5 but GD lib is not enabled,  I knew that I can install all the needed modules and extensions throught XAMPP for lunix at http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html#372  ,

But I got confused after reviewing the XAMPP website regarding wether its made for localhost only or can be used for my new dedicated lunix server as well.

Please help

they mention their site that:
"After downloading simply type in the following commands:
Go to a Linux shell and login as the system administrator root:
Extract the downloaded archive file to /opt:
tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.6.6.tar.gz -C /opt"

this means I download it on my local machine then access the shell and put the previous command lines or in my case it means that I should upload it to a specific folder on my server?

On the other hand what is the url I should be using to access it on the internet?

You run the /opt/lampp/lampp security , after Xampp is installed.

The url that you should use to access in internet is your ip.
Example, my ip is ., the server is listen on

great But what I meant where I should upload the XAMPP on my server or I don't need to upload it on my server in order to be installed?

I started with Experts Exchange in 2004 and it's been a mainstay of my professional computing life since. It helped me launch a career as a programmer / Oracle data analyst
William Peck

in other words, where should I upload the XAMPP file to my server in order to be installed?

You can upload to any folder, but you have to extract to /opt
