My DVD player does not register at all. It tells me that the drivers are corrupted

My DVD player does not register at all. It tells me that the drivers are corrupted, and I have been unable to find new ones. I have tried tech support, uninstalling and reinstalling the device, searching the internet, the reboot disc(doesn't even register), and half a dozen other things nothing has worked.

Did you try this yet?

WinXP is frequently a problem with the existence of "upper and lower filters" which renders the drive inoperable: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060
Getting rid of it in the registry is the fix.

Open regedit and find the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Class\\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Right click in the upper and lower filter entries in these keys and press delete.
Reboot and check if it is OK now.

Or download this and run it:

>>  My DVD player does not register at all. It tells me that the drivers are corrupted  <<   i suppose you have an error in device manager ?
apart from being a bad drive (must be replaced if so) you can test with another drive on your PC, or test your drive on another PC.
***note : normally, no drivers are needed - they are included in XP - vista

what is the exact error you receive?
Also try another IDE data cable.

I have Vista so the guide for upper and lower filters doesn't work and when I try to do it manually it causes more problems then it solves. Also the other link you gave me is only for XP.

The problem is that the driver became corrupted, and nothing I try to do fixes it. That error 31.

It now reads my cds and such but now it doesn't do auto play or anything. I have reset the autoplay options but it still soesn't do anything, and when I right click on the drive when a disc is in, music or movie I don't have the option to play it, or even a open with tab.

that didn't fix the problem, the value was at 1 The problem is that it is registering my hd dvd reader and writer as a cd drive. When I right click on the drive to try and get to play a disc it does not have the option to play or to open with and then a list of programs. I can just open it into the video.ts or whatever it is called afolders.
