exmerge never completes and creates 20+GB thread2 log file...so cannpot read it.
Exmerge has been working OK for 1 year now and suddenly began to fail to complete extracting all mailboxes and creates a log file to fill all disc space
Suspected exchange database so did offline defrag.
ran exmerge to create brand new *.pst files...worked fine.
put new *.pst file to one side...
re-instated old *.pst files from backup...ran exmerge...
problem persists...so probably one of the PST files is corrupt.
Assuming I can find which one by running Outklook on them all...is there any hope for the corrupt one?
Prefer to not end up with mutliple user backup *.PSTs
scheduled task command line is....
c:\exmerge\exmerge -B -D -f exmerge1.ini -logmed -srcserv stexchange
I inherited this system 5 months after it was installed and wonder if there any enviromental considerations that got missed...like whether the exchange server can be on line and fully operational whilst running exmerge.

I have a small number of high volume email users, typical mailboxes exceed 800Mb.
Most are on Macs using Entourage which does not have any Outlook style archiving.
Company policy insists that emails are kept for as much as the past two years...although more would be preferable. The *.pst files are an easy way to connect to with Outlook, find the email(s) needed from the past and resend them to the Mac user who wants them.
I am in the process of researching a scheme whereby the Entourage users can switch identities and view historical emails...but it is is beginning to look cumbersome and likely to require highly skilled technical assistance to invoke....nothing like the'' hitting of the "archive" button in Outlook.
Any better ideas to solve the long term archiving need would be welcome.

SO..if the store must be on line for exmerge to work what happens if a message comes in whilst exmerge was in the process of closing off the copying out of the messages from that user area of the database?
OR if the user was on line and did anything with any of the folders?

I suppose PST files out of exmerge suffer the same limitations as when they are in Outlook. They don't work over 2GB!

Thanks for your thoughts...will go & repair oversized PSTs and consider options
What I am more interested in is why you are doing it at all - I mean, you have a full configured backup application built into SBS - why make life difficult for yourself?
