Function btrim

I use the btrim function, but it doesn't work, it return the same string. The purpose is to delete the spaces by using the one of the trim functions (trim, btrim, ltrim, rtrim). And I want to know also how to use regexp_replace for replacing a serial of caracters (space, -, +, /) with nothing. Thanks!
select btrim('De Cagnas');
OR
select btrim('De Cagnas', 'a');

I first confused translate with a translation in French. It's stupid, but if you had put "you will need the function translate()" I won't be confusing. But it's delais.
