MSAccess - accessing XLS cells remotely?

I have an app that uses a TransferSpreadsheet routine to import an XLS sheet into a table.

I'd like to be able to INSPECT the file before the import action commences to be sure I have the correct file and correct data within the file.

I can do this reliably by inspecting 2 cells  A1 and A3 (XLS report header information, from a 3rd party app).

Note:  I ignore the report header lines as follows, capturing just he column headers & data.

DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet , , "Purchase Orders", strInputFileName, True, "a5:Az65500"

Is it possible to INSPECT the XLS file remotely to check the value of those two cells??

Example:  If <filename>:cell (A3) = "06YEX" then do stuff...else err msg....
