Cisco, Switch, 2900 Series XL Configuration

I am trying to monitor traffic through my IDS device. The configuration is listed below. How do I configure the two 2900 Series XL Cisco Switches so that traffic from the two Hosts go through them?  I was thinking about creating VLAN but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks RSLE. Do I need to setup an IP address on my VLAN for this configuration?

I setup VLAN 20 and have Ports 1-2 on that VLAN.

I then performed these commands:
interface fa0/1
port monitor fa0/2

I then connected computer to port 2 and a monitor device on port 1. I was expecting to see some traffic but I don't. Do you have any ideal what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!!
I have another configuration with a cisco 2621XM  router:
Host1-----Switch1----IDS---(FA0/1)Router(FA0/0)-----Host2.

What configurations do I need to set for part fa0/0 and fa0/02 in order for the IDS to see traffic.  I have the switch1 side configured.

As worded, I don't understand the new question.  Actually this should be posted as a separate question.
