Proper trunk port setup

As you no most switch come configured with ports in dynamic mode and you have to put them in access mode if you want them to be.  What i want to know is when i run the switchport mode trunk command on both ends of the link should both ends be in dynamic mode or in access mode or it doesnt matter.  Also if oth ends are in dynamic will it automatically form a trunk link and if so is this because it recognizes the two end points are switch and not switch and pc.
