We use Symantch ghost.

Use the WAIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit). WAIK works best when you use it with MDT2008 (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit), to create your images and to deploy them, and USB is an option. they are Microsoft and free.
If you use the WAIK and still want to use Ghost then just create to bootable WinPE files, drop your ghost exes on it and you're away.
If you install the WAIK and open up the help chm and look for "Walkthrough: Create a Bootable Windows PE RAM Disk on UFD". That'll give you what you want. Don't be too put off by the size of it (1.3GB), you're probably not going to use most of it for what you need. But it's a tried and tested method.
