But this topic confuse me, i have my Virtual PC installed with 1 AD+exchange 2003, 1 XP client. Iam doing

PLEASE CORRECT ME IF MY PROCEDURE IS WRONG..
Objective: Restore user mailbox thru Recovery Storage Group

1. I performed an online backup on the Information Store
2. I delete 1 user mailbox- (to simulate the mailbox restore thru recovery storage group)
3. On the Database tab of Mailbox. i enabled the "This database can be overwritten by a restore"
4. Create Recovery Storage Group then I add the mailbox-- but when i mounted this mailbox, refresh, there is NO
     user mailboxes listed! why?? :(
5. thru NTBackup, Objective: restore the backed-up mailbox.
5.1 I addressed the issue of Event ID: 9635
5.2 and follows the procedure listed in the module but nothing changed! appreciate your help on this.

You're asking:
where was this done?
in the RSG or the main store?

>> In the main store.

My objective is to restore mailbox using Recovery Storage Group. Please advice.
rakeshmiglani

what do you have in the main store now?
can you share a screenshot?
if you want to restore to the RSG then the This database can be overwritten by a restore" should not be checked in the main mailbox store.

All of my user mailboxes are in the main mailbox store.. please see snapshot

I removed the check mark on "This database can be overwritten by a restore" on the main mailbox store and
test the restore process using RSG but still no luck.

iam confused why I cant restore my information store backup when my main mailbox store is mounted OR it should really be unmounted during restore.. When I add and mount the store in Recovery Storage Group there is no user mailboxes appears on the mailbox:( why??

Lets do the following
delete the RSG and the restored database in the RSG
create a new RSG
Add the mailbox store to the RSG
Don't mount it yet
Restore the backup to the RSG
Once the restore completes, mount the database in the RSG
Then check if you are able to see your mailboxes there.

Thank you for the unlimited patience for helping me on this..

I tried so many and so many ways but i didnt get it:(

Please see snap3.jpg snapshot for the error on your given above procedure.

----

The error in Application Event Log is saying that the store is in used that is why i cannot perform the restore..

I can only perform restore only when i dismount the main mailbox store.

Please advice.

Hi rakeshmiglani,

thank you for the help I already resolved the issue, what i did is I delete the entry I created in REGEDIT

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Parameters\System   and created a new DWORD called Recovery SG Override and set the value to 1.

I just read and follow this link http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/How-Recovery-Storage-Groups-Work.html

Thank you for your usual support.. now i can continue with my study:)

NOW i resolved my issues in recovering mailboxes using Recovery Storage Group..

Iam now on the second procedure to restore Mailboxes thru Recovery Forest.

Any ideas would be a great help for me. Thank you.

This is what i did to simulate Mailbox recovery thru another server (Different Forest)
On the Orig server>>
- performed full backup of Information Store

On the Recovery Server>>
- Different Forrest (diff IP address)
- Same Organizational Name, Administrative Name, Storage Group name, logical dbase name, and even the server name.
- Restore the backup thru NTBACKUP, successful.
- mount the store, successful.
- to simulate mailbox restore, I created 1 user account (same as username from orig server)..
- I tried to mount the mailbox of the user, i received an error "confilct" thru Mailbox Recovery Center, and when I used Mailbox Store to "Reconnect" the mailbox it cannot see the newly created user account.

:( what iam going to do next..
IS there something to do with LegacyDN.exe

Please advise. Thank you.
