I have several large contact lists in .csv form that I want to import into ACT V10. However I need to import them into specific folders. Every time I import these contacts, it throws them all in a central "Recently Added Contacts folder". The problem is, I can't remove them from that folder, and all the lists are getting mixed together when I import them. So it boils down to this

Can I import directly to a Group in ACT V10?

If there is a field in the data the defines the group the contact should be it, you can create Groups with Group Membership Rules to automatically add the appropriate contacts.

Or you could do the import with a tool like itImport - http://www.glcomputing.com.au/main/57/1

I tried to created a field in the csv file via excel, but when I tried to save it is says that the format is not compatible with csv. How can I add a "group" field and still save it as .csv?

After you added the field - File | Save As
Change the file type to CSV

It gives me an error message but I think I may have fixed it. I'm going to test it out.

If it does work... let me know the error message and if it comes from Excel or ACT!

If itImport (above) is an option, it can do Excel files directly

I ended up just waiting until the recently added contacts was empty and added the new ones.

The recently added Group has nothing to do with the others... contacts can belong to as many groups as you want.

The recently added group has a Membership Rule to auto add contacts added within a specific time frame.
