SMTP on SBS 2003

I have set my smtp server as the local isp when I ran my CIEW.  Now I am receiveing delayed delivery messages and sometimes even timeout messages for the users.
Shold I change my setup to avoid these messages?

If you were to configure Outlook to send mail out using the ISP's SMTP server, would you have to enable some form of SMTP outbound authentication? If so, see My ISP requires authentication to use their SMTP server
in the Questions section at http://www.amset.info/exchange/smtp-connector.asp to correctly configure your username and password on the SMTP connector.

I am getting the following error:

The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason.  Check the address and try again.  If it still fails, contact your system administrator.

You still haven't answered my question. Does the ISP need some form of authentication when you send mail through their mail server?
No they do not
