What are the minimum rights required for a user to be able to see the events in the event log?
I'm trying to script some login scripts for generic users, based on events...

User have by default the permission to see events in the Application and System event logs. Only the Security event log requires admin permissions.

You can give the users "Manage auditing and security log" (fairly easy, see first link, but allows them to clear the security log as well), or you can set custom permissions for the security event log (fairly involved, second link ...)
