Hey EE,
I have an SQL database driven web app. The input/search/screen display part is complete and now I am down to the last part. I want to take the data that has been entered into the database and generate a pdf report for the user to print/save/transfer/etc. I want the report to ONLY be available to the user as a pdf file (ie: I want them to click "PDF BUTTON" on an aspx page and a pdf will be opened in a new window for them to review/save/print)

Here is a link to what the form will look like (without the data fields filled in):
http://www.mediafire.com/?d0xwlzyry3z

If there are more violations, the form may go to another page on the pdf report. How should I do this? I would like it to be as efficient as possible...

Remember, I am using vb!

The best way i can think of to your problem is through sql server reporting services.

What you need to do is to create a report through sql server reporting services. the report will be same as your aspx page is looking.

When the user will click on show pdf you can open a popup and from this popup you need to call the reporting service web service requesting to run the report. Now reporting service will convert that report output in pdf format by setting some parameters.
You need to save that pdf on your webserver . then again read it from that location & show it in browser.

This is bit complex to implement but it will solve your problem.

Where can I get SQL Server Reporting services? Is it open source? Do I get it with SQL server?

Also, I don't really want to save a copy of the pdf to the server... there will be tens of thousands of them and they are pretty much useless to store. I want them to be generated on the fly and downloadable.

Solution suggestions from others are still welcome...

you will get the SQL Reporting Services along with sql server.

You will get a memory stream from reporting web services. Now it is up to you what way you want to show to the user.
