Disable usb storage devices in Mac OS 9 and OS X keeping the keyboard and mouse working

I have two querries:

1. Does anyone know how to disable usb storage devices (but keep the usb keyboard and mouse working) i
n Mac OS X?Can i disable/enable usb port (not as a whole but independently) in MAC
2. How do i write protect the DVD writer in MAC OS X

the easiest solution to deny thumb drvies in MAC without affecting the keyboard and mouse is by installing an application for free. downloaded the same from the following:
http://homepage.mac.com/gweston/dtd/index.html
