QuickBooks Pro 2008 Keeps Opening Old Data Files

We have our QuickBooks Pro 2008 data shared out on the network. Every time users log on to their pcs and open QuickBooks, the window that shows the recently opened companies lists QuickBooks files that are no longer on our network. It does not show the actual previous companies. If we change the number of previous companies and then open the correct files they are listed, but then it reverts the next time the user logs off and back onto the pc. This is very frustrating because the users have to browse to the files every time they open them.

With the help of the Intuit forums I have figured out the solution:

The QuickBooks qbw.ini file lists all the previously opened data files that display on your list. As you know, the number of previously opened files on your list is set by the physical number you enter in "Set number of previous companies..." setting. The qbw.ini file is located in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit.

Example:
FILE1=C:\My Company Files\QB 2007\Tucson Moving Company 2007.QBW
FILE2=C:\My Company Files\QB 2007\Tucson Moving Company 2007 PCF restore test.QBW

If the qbw.ini file is set to Read Only, the original list will always revert back once QuickBooks is closed and reopened.

Our users do have roaming profiles. I found another ini file, qbwuser.ini, under docs and settings\[user]\local settings\application data\intuit\quickbooks 2008.

I gave users explicit control to both .ini files and edited both with the correct paths and they now get the correct paths every time they logon.
