I have a friend whose computer will not update to IE7. Firefox works  fine but IE7 will not even open. She has un-installed and then reinstalled the program with no success. She has scanned for viruses and used the No Add On version of IE7 with no success. She reset IE7 using Tools, Internet Options, Advanced--RESET also no help. Anyone have this particular problem?

Hello jhmblvd,

1. What operating system is user using?  IE7 works only one Windows XP, Windows 2003, and Vista.

2. You may have a bad download of IE7.  Download again, but turn off antivirus and antispyware first before downloading.

3. Boot up to Safe Mode and then open IE7.

4. Check if a program running in the background is interfering with Internet Explorer. Temporarily disable antivirus and other security programs, firewall, toolbars such as Google and Yahoo, and desktop programs such as MSN and Google.

Hope this helps!

XP Pro with all the updates. I had her reinstall-- still no joy.
However IE7 does run in safe mode.

Thanks much.

Glad you can run in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, no other programs are running that may interfere with IE7.  Disable Google Toolbar, all security programs, and other programs running in the back ground, one at time to determine the culprit.
