There is always the ps ax command that you can use to see if the application is running. If it is, do you have a remote system with a browser that you can attempt to connect to that server with? Also, did you do something similar to this for installation: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/install.html

what is the difference between PREFIX/bin/apachectl start?


and

httpd service start?
