Viewing mail enabled public folders in the GAL through Outlook.

Hi, we have an Exchange 2003 server up and running fine, except for public folders.

We have roughly 60 public folders which require email access. I have set the folders as mail enabled, then removed the tick from the "Hidden from Exchange Views".  After a while the folders can then be seen using Outlook in the GAL.

This works fine for 22 of the folders, however when I add more in, the new one stays, but within 24 hours one of the other folders, it is not in alphabetical order just random,  dissapears from the GAL, so at any one time I can only have a maximum of 22 public folders shown.  If I go back into exchange system manager the tick is not in the box and no settings have changed. If I want this particular folder back to reappear in the GAL, I have to retick the box, apply it, then untick the box and apply it.  But the next time I do this for another folder that isn't shown, it could remove any one from the list!??!?!

Is this a bug or is there something I am doing wrong?

The server is MS Server 2003 R2 Standard with service pack 2 and also service pack 2 for Exchange.
All MS updates have been applied.

Even if you have only one Exchange server it's due to "replication". Read more here:

Thanks for your response. I'm currently working through the documents, but for the most part everything is set up correctly. I have just added 3 new folders in and they appear to be staying in will all of the others, but the olde ones are not comming back. As I say I haven't gone through all of the document yet, I will come back to you when I have, unless there is anything else you can think of.

Sorry about the delay peakpeak, I've followed all the info you sent, the problem appears to be with RUS, but I can't figure out how to resolve.

I have added 3 new folders in and they have appeared in the GAL fine. However out of 40 of the original folders only 22 of them are showing in the GAL, I have ticked and unticked the box for them to show in the GAL, but they do not appear.  I've forced a rebuild of RUS, but it is not showing these folders, I have cjecked the email addresses and paths and they appear to be fine, I've also checekd pemissions and they are in fine.

When I check the replication status for both folders that are working and folders that are not, neither show any replication details.

I have set the logging to full for exchange and RUS is showing that it is trying to update, but it is not picking up the old items. And there are no errors in the event logs.

I've rebooted the server several times, but the addresses still will not show up in the GAL.

Any ideas? Do I need to delete the old folders and re-create them?

I have been creating and deleting new accounts and they all seem to work fine, I can hide and unhide them from the GAL, so that shows that RUS is working, doesn't it?

I have been checking the event logs for when I make changes to the older folders that do not show in the GAL and they show that a change has been made, but it alwys shows as the item remains hidden. It doesn't seem to pick up on the change.

I have found the problem, the folders are corrupt. I have removed the old folders and created duplicates, they now work fine.
