Dell Media Direct - Playing CD/DVD's without booting? Am I wrong on this??

XPS 1530, 3gb, T8300 processor, bought June 2008.

Not a big deal but I thought on this Dell laptop with MediaDirect you can insert a CD/DVD without fully booting to Windows Vista and play such..

But I think I may be wrong.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks

Correct. You can play DVDs/CDs through the Media Direct service.

Yes, you can play CD/DVD's without booting Windows.

With the machine shut down, press the special Media-Direct key along the upper row on the keyboard, looks like an outline of a house, and that should launch a special program called Media Direct which is basically a music/movie playing program. It does not use Windows but boots from a special partition on the HD (I think).

Not on my laptop--boots to Windows Vista.

Do you have only one user account, not password protected and not using fingerprint reader and are you are on Vista???

Yes you should be able to as r-k pointed out, I have an acer laptop and what I do is click on the
( Arcade button ) yours is media direct insode the on the keybaord.
Left beside the power switch, there is another hot-key, which can be used to launch the Dell Media Direct Center, a software designed to handle multimedia elements, e.g., audio files, pictures, and videos, which can also be run without starting Windows Vista.
