Configuring VLANs on Dell Switches

Dear Experts,

Here is the situation: I have configured a sonicwall DMZ to run on 192.168.7.0-254. I have currently attached a 5port netgear switch, accessing a sonicwall on a DMZ port, for two POE and two SonicWall Access points. I have a patch panel in the same room that covers 1/2 of the building and it is linked to a second patch panel by a fiber line. I would like to install an additional access point to the second half of the building.
The problem is I will have to run a cable for it to be plugged into the 5port netgear switch to access the DMZ.
I have Dell Managed Switches (Dell powerconnect 2748) capable of VLANs in the both parts of the building. So theoretically I should be able to create VLAN that will be running through the whole building by fiber line and going to the 5port netgear switch.

I need some help configuring the VLANs can someone give me a step by step configuration? So port 48 can only talk to port 24 on the other side of the building? Port 48 will be plugged into the 5port netgear switch and port 24 will be connected to the 3rd sonicwall access point.

Thanks in advance,

Here are some example instructions:

Assumptions
Switch1 and Switch2 are connected with fiber on port 48 of both switches
Switch1 port 41 will be connected to the DMS
Switch2 port 42 will be connected to the new access point

Switch1 -
   Create a new VLAN
      Name it 'DMZ'
      Assign it VLAN ID 2
   Assign port membership
      Add port 41 untagged
      Add port 48 tagged

Switch2 -
   Create new VLAN
      Name it 'DMZ'
      Assign if VLAN ID 2
   Assign Port membership
      Add port 42 untagged
      Add port 48 tagged

That's it, now Switch1 port 41 is linked to Switch2 port 42 on a separate VLAN.

kdearing,

Another question.

So I have created the VLAN (made it to group 99), the fiber ports are Tagged (T), and the other two ports are untagged (U).

There is an additional tab for port configuration. So I made ports 48, 42, and 41 part of PVID 99. There are two additional settings for each port: 'Frame Type, which allows to "Admit Tag only" and to "Admit All" and 'Ingress Filtering', which allows to "enable/disable" By default it is "Admit All" and "Enable"
Do I need to change those settings?

Thanks,

Leave those setting as they are.
You should be good to go.
