MySQL Database Connection & Creation Error Installing DotProject

Overview: I am installing dotproject software locally on my Vista machine.  I'm running the latest version of WAMP.

Problem: Cannot seem to set up the database.  I have used 'localhost' and the name of my machine as the database hostname.

As localhost, the installer tries the username 'user@localhost' and returns an Access Denied error (using password:YES).

When I use the name of my machine I get: 'Unknown MySQL server host'  The exact error is below.

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host '[machine-name]' (11004) in C:\wamp\www\dotproject\lib\adodb\drivers\adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 354

What do I do to resolve this and get this working?

Thanks!

If you do not have the GUI tools to manage mysql, you should get them at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html.  Make sure you have defined a login for user on any host.
The setting/configuration on your mysql could be the reason.
1) use the mysql tool on the command line"mysql -u root"
use mysql
select * from user;
select * from db;
select * from host;

make sure the user is present and has the rights to the database.
Using the GUI tools you can create a user.
